Facing Over Cards
Type of Game: Limit Texas Hold'em, $10-$20 Cash Game
Your Cards: 8c-8s
Your Position: Late
Scenario: A player in middle position raises first-in, you re-raise. All other players fold, but the middle player calls. You are now playing heads-up against him with $75 in the pot. The flop shows Ac-Qh-5c. You have a middle pair, but there are two over cards on the board. Your rival decides to check. What do you do in this situation? Check or bet?
Our answer: You should bet in this situation . Bet or re-raise is generally the best strategy on the flop when you have re-raised an opponent pre-flop and ended up heads-up against him. The player you’re facing might fold a stronger hand than yours, for example JJ, TT, 99, KQ or QJ. If he check-raises you should fold, if he calls you should back off on the turn.
