Flopping Bottom Pair
Type of Game: Limit Texas Hold'em, $10-$20 Cash Game
Your Cards: 8h-6h
Your Position: Small Blind
Scenario: A player in middle position and a late position player calls in and you limp in as well. Now there is $40 in the pot and four players still in the hand. The flop shows Ac-Qc-8s, giving you bottom pair. You check, the big blind checks as well, the middle position player bets, and the player in late position calls. There is $60 in the pot and now it’s up to you. What do you do in this situation? Fold, call or raise?
Our answer: You should fold in this situation. You only have five outs that can improve your hand on the turn, which is 8:1 against. The pot is giving you 6:1 on your call, and that’s not enough. Also, you have to reduce your outs because of the probability that you are drawing dead, or drawing to only 2 outs (this would of course give you even worse pot odds).
