Nothing but a Gut-shot Straight Draw
Type of Game: Limit Texas Hold'em, $20-$40 Cash Game
Your Cards: 7h-4s
Your Position: Big Blind
Scenario: The button and small blind calls, all other players fold, and you get to see the flop for free. Now there is $60 in the pot and three players still in the hand. The flop shows Qh-5d-3s, giving you nothing but a gut-shot straight draw. The small blind decides to check. What do you do in this situation? Check or bet?
Our answer: You should bet in this situation. This is a good time to semi-bluff with a weak hand. You are only up against two opponents and the small blind has shown weakness by checking. You have four outs to make the nut straight, and possibly more outs, even if someone calls. However, if you get re-raised you should fold.
