Trapped with Pocket Aces
Type of Game: No-Limit Texas Hold'em, Tournament,
Your Cards: Ah-Ad
Your Position: Button
Scenario: One player in early position, and two players in middle position, calls before it’s your turn to act. You raise to $550. The blinds both fold and son does one of the middle players. There is $1,900 in the pot and three players still in the hand. You and the two other remaining player all have around $15,000 in chips. The flop shows Ts-9d-3s. Your opponents check and you bet $2,000. The player in early position raises to $6,000 and the player in middle position moves all-in. Now there is $24,900 in the pot, and you have around $13,000 left. What do you do in this situation? Fold or call all-in?
Our answer: You should fold in this situation. Your opponents probably think you have an over pair, but they are still prepared to risk a lot of their chips. Consequently there is big risk that at least one of them has you beat. A player holding Qs-Js would actually be a favorite to beat you in this case. Folding pocket aces is always difficult, but in this case we think it’s the best move.
