Poker lingo

Poker is one of those games that everyone wants to be a part of. It adds a great deal of fun and excitement to any casino experience, whether it be a traditional casino or an online one that uses RNG. If you play poker, or if you are considering starting to play poker, it is important to have a firm understanding of the lingo that comes with the game.

There are plenty of little words and phrases that will go a long way in helping you adequately communicate with your opponents, as well as to properly understand what they are saying.

Below, we have put together a list of some of the most important poker phrases and what they mean.

Action card

The term “action card” refers to a specific card that is perceived to increase the strength of the hands of at least two players who are still in the game. As is suggested by its name, an action card can cause a great deal of betting and raising action to increase the pot.

Now this is a poker term that most of us have heard in movies and popular culture references, but we may not fully understand what it means. This refers to what happens when a player bets all of their remaining chips at once. In other words, the player has already put all of their money into the pot and will not need to do anything else in that hand.

This term is one that refers to the sum of money that has been set aside so that it can specifically be used for playing Texas Hold’em or any other type of poker. Essentially, it is a balance sheet for players to use that includes any tournaments, cash games and any other expenses that may be related to playing the game.

Arguably the most important presence in any game of poker is that of the dealer. A dealer is the person who handles the full dealing process, including distributing the pots and monitoring all of the action at the table. Occasionally, the last place at the table, also referred to as the button position, is also called the dealer.

Poker face

More than just a song, the term "poker face" is used to describe a player who does not show any emotions or give away any tells, thus making it very hard to read them.

The pot refers to the amount of chips in the middle of the table placed there by players of a particular hand. Basically, the pot is the total number of chips amounting from the overall bets of the players, which is how much the winning player will be awarded when playing t or elsewhere.

This is a bit of a confusing term when first heard, but it can be narrowed down to this: a semi-bluff is a bet made by a player who is likely behind. They may choose to perform an aggressive action like raising with an uncertain hand that has the potential to improve.
